BLAS MOVED ON A WEST-NORTHWEST HEADING FOR SEVERAL DAYS REACHING A PEAK INTENSITY OF 120 KNOTS...A CATEGORY FOUR ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON HURRICANE SCALE...ON 25 JUNE ABOUT 270 NAUTICAL MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF MANZANILLO MEXICO. BY 26 JUNE THE SYSTEM TURNED TO A MORE WESTERLY COURSE AND BEGAN TO GRADUALLY WEAKEN AS IT ENCOUNTERED PROGRESSIVELY COOLER WATERS...DISSIPATING ON 30 JUNE. THE PRIMARY IMPACT OF BLAS WAS HEAVY SURF ALONG THE COAST OF MEXICO.

ITS CENTER PASSED WITHIN ABOUT 130 NAUTICAL MILES SOUTHWEST OF CABO SAN LUCAS EARLY ON THE 18TH. CELIA'S MOTION BECAME WEST-NORTHWESTWARD LATER THAT DAY AND THE STORM THEN REACHED ITS MAXIMUM STRENGTH...WITH ESTIMATED 50 KNOT WINDS. CELIA THEN TURNED TOWARD THE WEST... GRADUALLY WEAKENING TO DISSIPATION WELL WEST OF BAJA CALIFORNIA.

DARBY FORMED ON THE 23RD ABOUT 625 NAUTICAL MILES TO THE SOUTH OF CABO SAN LUCAS. IT MOVED RATHER STEADILY TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST AND CROSSED INTO THE CENTRAL PACIFIC HURRICANE BASIN ON THE 29TH. WHILE IN THE EASTERN PACIFIC...DARBY UNDERWENT A PERIOD OF RAPID STRENGTHENING...WITH WINDS INCREASING FROM ABOUT 30 KNOTS LATE ON THE 23RD TO ABOUT 100 KT 36 HOURS LATER. ITS INTENSITY THEN FLUCTUATED SLIGHTLY BEFORE A SIGNIFICANT WEAKENING TREND BEGAN ON THE 28TH IN AN ENVIRONMENT OF SOMEWHAT COOLER WATERS AND STRONGER WIND SHEAR. AT PRESENT...DARBY IS DISSIPATING WELL NORTH OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.

DARBY ENTERED THE CENTRAL PACIFIC FROM THE EASTERN PACIFIC ON THE EVENING OF JULY 28...MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NORTHWEST. THIS WAS THE FIRST HURRICANE DAY IN THE CENTRAL PACIFIC SINCE SEPTEMBER 01 1994 DURING HURRICANE KRISTY. THE STORM WAS ALREADY IN A WEAKENING TREND AND WAS DOWNGRADED TO A TROPICAL STORM EARLY ON JULY 29. ITS INTENSITY CONTINUED TO DIMINISH BEFORE BEING DOWNGRADED TO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION ON THE EVENING OF JULY 30 WHEN IT WAS ABOUT 400 MILES NORTHEAST OF THE BIG ISLAND OF HAWAII. DARBY FINALLY DISSIPATED NORTH OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS ON THE AFTERNOON OF JULY 31.
